His Legacy

Family of four generations

"..the sum of a man may be measured, not just by his lifetime achievements, but also by what remains, when he is gone away."
                                                                                   G.J Austin, Poet

This photograph was taken in February 1999. It shows (l to r) Richard, Lesley, baby Hannah (then nearly 3 months old), with Kathleen Thomas (Great Grandma!)

Kathleen was Wilson's wife, and never re-married. She was a well loved and much respected head teacher at a Church of England Primary school in North London.

Eldest daughter of a family of four children, Kathleen took comfort at her loss in the many family and friends who surrounded her. She lived most of her post-war life with her sister, Dorothy, known as Do, at their home in Canons Park, Edgware.

We were pleased that she lived long enough to see her first great grandchild, and also to qualify for the UK Governments financial award to FEPoW's & their widows. She died a few months after this picture was taken. Sadly missed, but never far from our thoughts.

Had Wilson not died in Japan it is unlikely that we would have ever visited the country. Our lives are thus the richer for the kind and generous people we have met, the love and forgiveness we have encountered, and the friendships we have formed as a result.
